My Inability to Be Writerly Anymore

22 Apr

You know, when I was younger, I always wanted “something to do”. I wanted a “life” basically. Now that I have one, I’m wondering if I can give it back. Seriously, juggling a social life, school life, track, and family life is just too crazy! Put writing a novel, keeping up with a blog and critique group on top of that and well… things start to pile up.

I don’t mean to complain, really I don’t. I love hanging out with my friends, and running track is a huge passion of mine, and heck, not to be a complete geek, but school isn’t all bad. Sometimes I even like it.

My point is that I never have enough time for “my stuff” anymore. Seriously, I get on the bus at 6:55 and then have practice from 2:30 to 4:30 Mon-Fri plus meets on Saturdays which can last up to six hours! That leaves little time for writing, and blogging, and just plain being “writerly”.

I know things will slow down after school, but I’m really irked by the fact that I can’t get it all done. I’m one of those insane people who makes numbered lists from 1 to 100, and trys to get it all done with in a two-hour period… which never happens (needless to say).

I love writing and editing and keeping up with my “writer community” but it seems like life is just trying to stop me from being writerly anymore.

So this weekend is all writerly people. With my track meet cancelled due to severe thunderstorms, and my father out-of-town I will attempt to be as writerly as possible this weekend!

What about you all? Does life ever get in your writerly way? 😀

Yes! All the time. I am currently *trying* to write a novel, and things have been so crazy that it isn’t funny anymore. My mom was the one who gave me the idea and wants me to write it, but she yells at me every time I go to write something down on the computer. How messed up is that ?!

LOL Parents crack me up, but don’t feel pressure to write a novel just because your mom wants to do. You should do what you love!

Thanks for stopping by Novel Ideas!

Life really does love to get in the way. Mostly for me it’s school. I’m terrible at time-managing, but I always want to get so much done in so little time.

Keep hanging in there. Summer’s almost here 🙂

It does get harder to make time for your writing when life gets crazy. Finding time for friends and family when you are busy editing, critiquing, and blogging can get tricky. I recently managed to get so many things going at once that I made myself sick. I got the worlds worst cold and then couldn’t do anything. It’s important to give yourself realistic goals I guess.

It would be great if we had just two more hours in a day wouldn’t it?

O gosh yes! If only, if only, right? haha

I think I just need to get better at “time management”.

When you finish high school you will find yourself with more free time than you’ve ever had before!

Ha except I plan on going to college, and from what i’ve heard that doesn’t leave much free time either. Haha at least the schedule will be more flexible.
